Prometheus Bound is a Greek tragedy written by Aeschylus. The play tells the story of Prometheus, a Titan who defies the gods and gives fire to humanity. As punishment for his actions, Zeus orders Prometheus to be chained to a rock and left to suffer for all eternity. Throughout the play, Prometheus is visited by various characters, including the Oceanids, Hermes, and Io, who all try to persuade him to submit to Zeus and end his suffering. However, Prometheus remains steadfast in his defiance and refuses to give in to the gods. The play is a powerful exploration of the themes of rebellion, punishment, and the struggle for freedom. It is considered one of the most important works in the Western literary canon and is still performed and studied today.PROMETHEUS Think not that I for pride and stubbornness Am silent: rather is my heart the prey Of gnawing thoughts, both for the past, and now Seeing myself by vengeance buffeted. For to these younger Gods their precedence Who severally determined if not I?This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
