Hugh Wynne, Free Quaker: Sometime Brevet Lt. Col. of His Excellency General Washington V1 is a historical novel written by S. Weir Mitchell. The novel is set during the American Revolution and follows the life of Hugh Wynne, a young Quaker who joins the Continental Army and becomes a close friend and confidant of George Washington. The story begins with Hugh's childhood in Philadelphia and his early experiences with the Quaker community. As tensions rise between the British and the colonists, Hugh becomes increasingly involved in the revolutionary cause and eventually joins the army. He participates in several key battles and becomes a respected officer, earning the rank of Brevet Lt. Col. Throughout the novel, Hugh struggles with his Quaker beliefs and the violence of war. He also faces personal challenges, including a difficult love triangle with two women and a battle with illness. The novel is well-researched and provides a detailed look at life during the American Revolution. It also explores themes of loyalty, friendship, and the cost of war. Overall, Hugh Wynne, Free Quaker is a compelling historical novel that offers a unique perspective on the Revolutionary War.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
