The Philanderer is a play written by George Bernard Shaw, first published in 1898. The play is a satirical comedy that explores the themes of love, marriage, and sexual politics. The story revolves around Leonard Charteris, a charming and witty young man who is a notorious philanderer. He is engaged to Grace Tranfield, a strong-willed and independent woman who is determined to marry him despite his reputation. However, when Leonard meets Julia Craven, a passionate and unconventional woman, he finds himself torn between his love for Grace and his desire for Julia. As the play unfolds, the characters engage in witty and thought-provoking discussions about gender roles, marriage, and the nature of love. The Philanderer is a classic example of Shaw's sharp wit and social commentary, and remains a popular play in the canon of English literature.JULIA. I couldn't bear it any longer. Oh, to see them sitting there at lunch together, laughing, chatting, making game of me! I should have screamed out in another moment--I should have taken a knife and killed her--I should have--(Cuthbertson appears with the luncheon bill in his hand. He stuffs it into his waistcoat pocket as he comes to them. He begins speaking the moment he enters.)This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
