The History of the Britons is a historical text written by Nennius, a Welsh monk, in the 9th century. It is a compilation of various sources, including oral traditions and earlier written works, that recount the history of Britain from its mythical origins to the 9th century. The text is divided into sections that focus on different periods of British history, including the Roman occupation, the arrival of the Saxons, and the reigns of various kings and rulers. The History of the Britons also includes accounts of legendary figures, such as King Arthur and Merlin, as well as descriptions of battles and political events. The text is notable for its inclusion of Welsh mythology and folklore, which provides a unique perspective on British history. Despite its historical inaccuracies and inconsistencies, The History of the Britons remains an important source for scholars studying the early history of Britain. It has been translated into various languages and continues to be studied and debated by historians and literary scholars alike. Then it was, that the magnanimous Arthur, with all the kings and military force of Britain, fought against the Saxons. And though there were many more noble than himself, yet he was twelve times chosen their commander, and was as often conqueror. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
