Theodosius Or The Force Of Love, A Tragedy is a play written by Nathaniel Lee. The story revolves around the character of Theodosius, who is the Emperor of Rome. Theodosius falls in love with a woman named Athenais, who is a Christian and already married. Despite the opposition from his court and his own conscience, Theodosius pursues Athenais and eventually marries her. However, his actions have consequences and lead to a series of tragic events, including the death of Athenais and the downfall of Theodosius himself. The play explores the themes of love, power, and morality, and is considered a masterpiece of Restoration drama. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
