The Life of Bret Harte with Some Account of the California Pioneers is a biography written by Henry Childs Merwin. The book provides a detailed account of the life of Bret Harte, an American author and poet who gained fame for his stories about the California Gold Rush. The biography traces Harte's life from his childhood in Albany, New York, to his move to California in 1853, where he worked as a miner, teacher, and journalist. The book also explores Harte's literary career, including his work as an editor for various newspapers and magazines, and his success as a writer of short stories and poetry. In addition to Harte's life, the book also provides a broader historical context, discussing the experiences of the California pioneers and the impact of the Gold Rush on American society. Overall, The Life of Bret Harte with Some Account of the California Pioneers is a comprehensive and engaging biography that offers readers a fascinating look into the life of one of America's most beloved writers. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
