Hopeless dystopian roadtrip

A father and his son on the road. The story sets in just as sudden as the dawning day. They are on the way from north down to the south, to hopefully a warmer climate. Their names are never mentioned as isn't the reason for the catastrophy that let to this dying world the father and the son pass through. Father and son try to evoid people. Plants and game are hardly ever seen. Food is so scarce that there is always fear of cannibalism. The son never knew any life but this since he was born into this dystopic world, it is all he knows but he yearns for stories of the former world. His father tries to teach him to be good people. It's difficult to keep this up in a cold world full of so much desperation. As father and son try to reach the coast they try to keep the fire in their hearts burning. It's a dystopic novel that makes your heart ache. I came in contact first with the movie in which Viggo Mortensen plays the father and the performance and the setting of the story made me curious about the novel when I found out the film was based on a book by Cormac McMarthy. I plan to reread this great book in a not so distant future.

McCarthy's Prosa bringt auch in das endlos trostlose Ödland Schönheit. Eine bewegende Geschichte über einen Vater, der trotz aller Umstände versucht, seinen Sohn sicher durch eine brutale, post-apokalyptische Welt zu führen und einen Sinn im Leben zu bewahren.
