Bored to undeath

Rodrigo Frez-Hidalgo aus Wien am 24.05.2021

Bewertungsnummer: 798126

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

What is a vampire to do after he has been the male concubine of the vampire queen herself, thus becoming possibly the mightiest vampire on the face of the earth? If we take into account that Lestat had been buried for many years before he founded his band, we come to one simple conclusion : he wants to die. Even if his last adventure reminded him of the abilities and advantages of being a vampire, he has become sick of his existence, trying to force feeling, pain, death upon him, lying in midst of dry dry deserts, watching how sun and fire become impervious to his might. What is left, but to embrace the thought that there are no answers, that the vampire itself is nothing but nature torn, an evolutionary misstep? Anne Rice tries to surpass the vampire world by creating an environment that speaks of god and devil playing chess while they lead and mislead human and nonhuman kind. Heaven is a chorus of intermixing angelical voices and sounds that melt together into a blur of feelings that resemble the feeling before fainting. What is Lestas place in gods plan? Which role do the vampires as a race play within the divine? While the book is part of the vampire chronicles, it becomes redundant. Even if Anne Rice declares Lestats wish to become part of world literature while disappearing from the scene, she continues writing on her chronicles, which again regain the essence of her writing. Even being the worst book of the series it still remains a recommendable book for those who read the one that came before.
