Meine letzte Rezension Strange Buildings von Uketsu

I waited patiently for "Strange Buildings" to release, I kept wondering what kind of mystery Uketsu will tell us with his third book and he did not disappoint. From his three books, "Strange Buildings" is definitely my favourite one. Each Chapter is a different file, almost like you're watching an Analog Horror-Series online. Each Chapter was a puzzle piece to the conclusion at the end and each word that was written or said was important. I was sitting on the edge of my seat!

Absolute Batman

Natürlich spielt "Absolute Batman" nicht in der Canon Universe vom DC-Universum, aber die Absolute-Reihe gibt uns ein tolles "Was wäre wenn..." von unseren Lieblings-Heroes. Wir folgen, wie immer bei Batman, Bruce Wayne, aber nicht den Playboy Millionär den wir kennen und lieben, sondern ein wütender, brutaller und noch stärkere Version von Batman. Ein noch dünkleren "Dark Knight". Scott Snyders Comics sind immer meine lieblings Comics, die Art wie er sie schreibt und die Charaktere treu zu ihren Wurzeln haltet ist etwas was nicht viele Autoren bei DC machen. Mein absolutes ( ;) ) Comic highlight !

How to Stand Up to a Dictator

As a Filipino, it makes me upset it took me so long to finally read this book, but I'm glad I finally did. Maria Ressa talks about her life, how she grew up in the Philippines and in the US & finding her identity as herself but most importantly, her identity as a reporter. The main part of the book is about journalism, how she witnessed the Golden Age of journalism and how easy it is to corrupt the media and people and how easy it is to be corrupted. Each page was an eye opening experience for me, each page I felt angry with the injustice that was described and each page I felt upset that I didn't know this was happening at the time. But each page made me realize how lucky the world is to have people like Maria Ressa, people who aren't afraid to stand up for what is right. I always looked for Filipino role-models growing up, even if I'm not a kid anymore, I strive to grow up to be someone like Maria Ressa.

Lights Out

"Lights Out" was my first introduction to the genre "Dark Romance" and I don't regret it one bit. A lot of Booktok girlies screamed and gushed about the book and like the nosy person I am, I caved in. The story follows trauma-nurse Aly, who loves to watch masked men on her Instagram feed. She's really into the whole masked man, who is behind it, fantasy and she doesn't shy away to mention it often in the chapters that are from her POV. Important fact, she has a cat named Fred! The main love interest is Josh, who is one of those masked men Aly loves to see on her feed and also her favourite one. At first, the whole obsession and stalker thing weirded me out, but I should've known better when I read the trigger warnings. As I read more, Aly and Josh's relationship felt healthier than most relationships I hear about. They both know what they want and how they want it and feel comfortable with eachother, even when Josh was hiding so much from Aly like his face and voice. The ending felt perfect and so in character for both and honestly this was probably the best book to ease into the genre! I can't wait to read more <3

Nemesis' Töchter

Oft bei Büchern kann man nicht erkennen wie sich der Autor oder Autorin sich fühlt, aber bei "Nemesis Töchter" spürt man Emotionen im jeden Satz. Ich habe auch gleichzeitig das Hörbuch gehört, was von Tara-Louise Wittwer vorgelesen wird, und dort kann man ihre Wut noch deutlicher hören. Dieses Buch ist eine Zeitreise, von dem Anfang bis zur Gegenwart. Von der Hexenjagd bis zu dem Alpha-Males in TikTok Kommentaren. Viel zum nachdenken, viel zu verinnerlichen, und vorallem viel, viel Wut. Ein Buch das für immer weiter empfehlen wird.

Ich will sterben, aber Tteokbokki essen will ich auch

"Ich will sterben, aber Tteokbokki essen will ich auch" ist ein Buch das seit längerem auf meiner lange Liste von Büchern war. Es ist persönlich, aber liest sich in manchen Stellen wie ein Ratgeber. Das Buch enthält Abschnitte von den Therapiesstunden der Autorin und dann oft, kleine Merkmale zu den Abschnitt am Ende des Kapitels. Auch wenn der Aufbau nicht typisch ist und nicht jeden gefällt, ist es ein Buch das viele Emotionen ausdrückt und sehr offen die Sachen anspricht. Definitiv ein Buch das ich wieder lesen werde :)

Dornenritter

Kaja Evert ist hands down einen von meinen Lieblingsautoren geworden dieses Jahr. A diamond in the rough, underrated. Dornenritter folgt Steyn, ein Mann der versucht Ritter des Lichts zu werden wie sein Vater damals. Gleichzeitig versucht Gavin der Gerber auch ein Ritter des Lichts zu werden. Beide sind Polar-Opposites, aber nicht ein Sunshine x Grumpy Duo. Steyn haltet sich zu den Regeln, zu Tradition. Gavin folgt sein eigenen Sinne, was er für richtig hält tut er auch, was oft ein Problem für Steyn ist. Dornenritter ist ein richtiges Dark Fantasy, mit ein bisschen slowburn Romance zwischen Steyn und Gavin. Verboten Liebe bis zum gehts nicht mehr. Der Anfang war langsam, aber wenn man durch die mehreren Seiten von Worldbuilding durch kämpft, wird das Buch spannender und spannender. Die Deutsche Buchwelt braucht mehr Bücher wie Dornenritter <3
