A psychological thriller that you won’t be able to put down until you know how it ends. The story is easy to follow, but will keep you on you on your toes until the very last page. Literary masterpiece? Probably not. Utterly bingeable and entertaining? Definitely!

    Is there even a bad book by Margaret Atwood?! Based on a true story of a double homicide in Canada in 1843, this one will leave you feeling eerie as you try to uncover the circumstances behind the deaths of servant Grace’s employer and his housekeeper. Hauntingly good!

    Mein persönlicher Überraschungshit 2024 – ein historischer Hintergrund und Themen, die damals wie heute aktuell sind. Ein Bergdorf in Tirol, dessen Existenz von der funktionierenden Gemeinschaft seiner Bewohner abhängt – der Preis dafür ist jedoch vor allem für die Frauen hoch – wie hoch, das zeigt dieser Roman auf sprachlich eindrucksvolle und bewegende Weise. Eine Geschichte über Freiheitsstreben und (Über-)Lebenswillen.

    Mit goldenem Löffel

    Für mich ein Überraschungshighlight! Die Geschichte über Haddock Hall und die Menschen, die dort leben, hat mich sofort in ihren Bann gezogen. Das Buch liest sich wie ein Film, ich hatte alle Charaktere sofort bildlich vor Augen und für mich hatte es gleich einen Hauch von "Downton Abbey" und "Lady Chatterley's Lover". Klare Leseempfehlung.

    The Priory of the Orange Tree

    This book has everything I look for when it comes to fantasy. It provides high fantasy at a high level, with good and detailed worldbuilding, multidimensional characters and solid plotlines. I loved that the buildup was slow and carefully curated, it really brought the whole world to life for me. However, if you're not into extensive worldbuilding and a slower pace especially at the beginning of a book, this one might not be for you! I really enjoyed Shannon's writing style and was instantly immersed in the world and the plot, having several characters to root for (Ead and Tané in particular for me). Warm recommendation for this epic first part of the duology!

    A devastating but gripping read about war and what it does to a family, and how it affects each member in its own way. A book that made me feel all the emotions and educated me about the often neglected sides of WW2, in this case Malaysia’s fight for autonomy.

    Ein Haus erzählt seine Geschichte... und man lacht, weint und seufzt mit ihm. Wortgewaltig, mitreißend, aufwühlend, dieses Buch ist ein Glanzstück und lässt einen so schnell nicht mehr los. Eines meiner persönlichen Jahreshighlights!

    The gothic vibes, the magic system, the lore, the characters (Elm you have my heart)… I am obsessed! I inhaled this duology in a couple of days and haven’t recovered since. A refreshingly original tale of monsters, magic, power, and love. This is for people who enjoy a good plot that’s not only built around the romance, but enticing in itself. Let yourself be taken away by this captivating Nightmare.

    Pink Elephant

    Eine Geschichte über: Freundschaft, Erwachsenwerden, Zugehörigketi, Rassismus… Bei so vielen großen Themen schafft Kieser etwas sehr Beeindruckendes, nämlich authentisch und schnörkellos, und doch mit viel Feingefühl zu erzählen. Überaus empfehlenswert!
