Apocolocyntosis , handed down under the name of Seneca the Younger, is a short but all the more malicious text about the deification of Emperor Claudius, whose idiosyncrasies and weaknesses are caricatured here to the point of absurdity. In the tradition of Menippean satire, prose and verse sections alternate, ranging from sublime epic to the most vulgar.
