The Upside of Unrequited

(4)
I don't entirely understand how anyone gets a boyfriend. Or a girlfriend. It just seems like the most impossible odds. A perfect alignment of feelings and circumstances . . .

Molly Peskin-Suso knows all about unrequited love. No matter how many times her twin sister, Cassie, tells her to woman up, Molly is always careful. Better to be careful than be hurt.

But when Cassie gets a new girlfriend who comes with a cute hipster-boy sidekick, everything changes. Will is funny, flirtatious and basically the perfect first boyfriend.
There's only one problem: Molly's coworker, Reid, the awkward Tolkien superfan she could never fall for . . . right?

A heartwarming and hilarious story about growing up and learning to be comfortable in your own skin.

„The Upside of Unrequited“

Diana Novak, Thalia-Buchhandlung Wien

It's official, I love ALL of Becky Albetrtali's books!
I guess she just can't do wrong.
Molly is such a sweet girl with such real struggles, I felt all her emotions as if they were mine.
The Peskin-Suso-Family was mentioned in her other books too and it was amazing to get to know them better.
A tender book about first love.

Noch nie habe ich so mit einem Charakter gefühlt wie mit Molly! Dicke Mädchen überall auf der Welt sollten dieses Buch lesen, es hilft wirklich, sich selbst in einem Buch zu sehen.

Disappointing

I was stupidly excited for this book to come out. I LOVED Simon! So can you imagine my pain when I say that this book was disappointing? So, what did I like? -Diversity! So can you imagine my pain when I say that this book was disappointing? So, what did I like? -Diversity! So much, everywhere, so natural and just generally YES! -Molly's and Cassie's moms: They were adorable and I was so happy for them that they got married! -Simon's cameo: Because he's Simon, duh! -The ending: It wrapped up the book so nicely! -Molly was a Pinterest whore: I, myself, am not but I found it very cool of Molly. -Molly has a crush on Lin-Manuel Miranda. Who hasn't?! He's awesome! Now to my longer list of dislikes: -Molly: I coudn't connect to her, her thoughts were so repetitive, it was somehow always about her and how she wanted a boyfriend and also, I didn't get why she had those 27 crushes. Why so many? Some flashbacks revealed how she got them and I just couldn't understand her reasoning. Furthermore, Molly is fat and says she like her body but not really, though, because she doesn't see herself as beautiful until a boy tells her so??? Like, what the actual eff?! -Cassie: I thought she was a terrible sister and didn't like how she treated Molly. Not acceptable! -No plot: There was no real plot besides Molly seeking a boyfriend. -I thouroughly dislike this quote: “Here’s what I would never, ever admit out loud: a part of me always thought it was some kind of a secret compliment when someone got called a slut. It meant you were having sex. It meant people wanted to have sex with you. Being a slut just meant you were normal. But I think maybe I’m wrong about that. Maybe I’m so wrong.” Yes, honey, you are completely off your rocker. -Reid: Reid is fine but we see so little of him, I wish he had more development. Same goes for Olivia. My hope is that Albertalli's third book that will feature Leah as the main character will be loads better!
