The Fault in Our Stars

Winner of the Buxtehuder Bulle 2012 and of the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis 2013, category Preis der Jugendlichen

(16)
This witty, yet heart-wrenching novel debuted at no.1 on the "New York Times" bestseller list and sold 100,000 copies in the first month as a hardback edition. Echoing David Nicholl's "One Day" and Jenny Downham's "Before I Die", this book will appeal to a crossover audience of both adults and young adults alike. Terminal patient, Hazel, is about to be introduced to the gorgeous Augustus Walters, sending sparks flying in this brilliant exploration of the funny and tragic business of being alive and in love.

'Damn near genius ... Simply devastating ... Fearless in the face of powerful, uncomplicated, unironized emotion' - TIME

'Funny ... Poignant ... Luminous' - Entertainment Weekly

John Green, self-proclaimed nerdfighter, YouTube-Celebrity and author, has written this extraordinary book.
Dedicated to his friend Esther Grace the book's storyline is somewhat inspired by her sickness, which is thyroid cancer.

This story is about lots of things: being in love, growing up, dealing with sickness, appreciating what you have and having faith. If it weren't for cancer Hazel would be like lots of other teenage girls too, a book-loving, slightly sarcastic yet realistic 16-year-old. Terminally ill she tries to be brave for her parents and doesn't expect all too much. But when she meets Augustus in her support group for kids with cancer things change. She experiences things she never thought she'd be able to experience...

I am amazed at the fact that such an authentic female character, especially a teenager, has been made up by a man. John Green portrays Hazel beautifully and makes it easy for the reader to sypathize with her.
I really enjoyed reading this book whether I was laughing or crying at the time and highly recommend it to every teenager aged 14 and up.

By the way, this book is also going to be made into a movie in 2014!

Thumbs up Mr. Green!!

A wonderful, touching story about living and dying, loving and fearing

I did not expect much when I bought the book - I just wanted a "light read". But it was so much more. It is a beautiful love story about 16-year-old Hazel and 17-year-old Gus who both have cancer and try to deal with the fact that their lives could end very soon. But it is not only about falling in love, and letting yourself be loved, despite everything. It deals with the most fundamental questions about life and death, which even the healthiest of us face. It is about wanting to leave your mark on the world, and the fear of oblivion. And still, while it faces these fears everyone of us has, it is not tiring to read, but you just want to read on and on. A real page turner (that's why I finished it in one day, reading until five in the morning). I recommend this book to anyone, no matter if you like to read Charles Dickens, J.D. Salinger or prefer Twilight.

As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.

I saw this book "Das Schicksal ist ein mieser Verräter" a million times, but I actually haven´t even considered buying it. I heard it´s about a girl with cancer and that it is sad, that was it for me! I usually prefer books with a happy ending, sue me but that´s the way it is. But then I read this : “Oh, I wouldn't mind, Hazel Grace. It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you.” I was hooked I had to read it! And it was amazing, breathtaking, heart wrenching, funny, sad, unjust and everything in between. I love this book. Writing does not get any better. I promise! I knew how the book ended before I bought it you can look it up on the authors homepage. I just had to know if there would be an happy ending for Gus and Hazel, well sometimes happy ending are not the most important thing.
