Turtles All the Way Down

Penguin

__________

'Our hearts were broken in the same places. That's something like love, but maybe not quite the thing itself'

Aza's life is filled with complications.

Living with anxiety and OCD is enough but when Daisy, her Best and Most Fearless Friend, brings her on a mission to find a fugitive billionaire things are about to get even more complicated.

To find Russell Pickett, Aza must enter the world of his geeky, but maybe kind-of-cute son, Davis.

But the chances of a first kiss, and maybe even a first love, could send Aza into a spiral of anxiety...

A perfect coming-of-age novel filled with love, mystery and Star Wars fan-fiction.

'John Green writes from the heart'- The Times

__________

In his long-awaited return John Green, the acclaimed author of the Fault in Our Stars, shares Aza's story with shattering, unflinching clarity in this brilliant novel about mental health, love, resilience, and the power of lifelong friendship.

'A gripping story that cuts to the heart of friendship and first love' The Scotsman

'Acknowledging the difficulties of loving someone with a chronic mental illness is both ethically noble, and, with this novel, skilfully done.' Claire Hennessy, Irish Times

'The friendships in Green's novels are stirring and powerful.' The New York Times

It's turtles all the way down Holmesy...

Jacqueline Waibel, Thalia-Buchhandlung Bürs

Aza is a really extraordinary girl. As she and her best friend Daisy find out, that a very important businessman have dissapeared, and that his company pays 100 000 Dollars to the finder of him they wanna get the reward. And the lost man is no other than the father of Aza's campmate Davis. But Davis don't want Aza and Daisy to look for his father and pays them the reward and in change they don't look for his father anymore. Like the most of the John Green books that i read, I love Turtles all the way down. John Green has such a special and adorable style of writing and you fall in love with every character immediately. If you are a fan of "The Fault in our Stars" ,"Looking for Alaska" or "Paper Towns", you will love Turtles all the way down.

Turtles All the Way Down

Diana, Thalia-Buchhandlung Wien

My first John Green and it exceeded my expectations. I kind of associated his books with soppy love stories and the need for an abundance of handkerchiefs, but Aza’s story was a far cry from that! It‘s not so much a love story than a story about love - self-love, parent’s love, friend’s love, old love and new love. A big part of the novel is about solving a crime and it’s so well structured and thought through that I was hooked and even though I had some issues with really comprehending Aza’s feelings, I could not put this book down until I finished it. Green writes authentic and honest about mental illness, you can tell that he is familiar with what he’s writing and he makes it so easy to empathize and broaden your mind. The ending was beautiful! I was worried it would be too unrealistic, cheesy or sad, but it settled in the middle, with a positive outlook that warmed my heart.

It was my 5th John Green and I just loved it. If you don't know how to express your feelings he can put it into words, that's why I appreciate his books so much. His description about Aza's mental illness is so accurate that you get the feeling he experienced it himself and he makes it really easy to empathize with the protagonist especially if you know what it's like to struggle against your thoughts sometimes. I recommend it to everybody but particularly to those who are interested in mental psyche, metaphors and amazing quotes about friendship, love, low self-esteem, growing up and life itself.
