Everybody Has Their Secrets...

Sabrina Reiter, Thalia-Buchhandlung Wien, Donauzentrum

"One of Us Is Lying" kind of reads like a crossover of "Pretty Little Liars" and "Gossip Girl" and will have you on the edge of your seat. What do Bronwyn, Cooper, Addy and Nate have in common? They wrongfully ended up in detention and are now the prime suspects for the murder of Simon, Bayview High's notorious gossip blogger, who did not survive said fateful hour. But which one of them really did kill Simon? Did they perhaps do it together? Or did someone entirely different commit the crime? After all, Simon did have his fair share of enemies... I absolutely loved reading this book! It is suspenseful, has a great storyline and interesting characters. I like that each of the Bayview Four get to tell their side of the story - that way you get to know them pretty well and can't help rooting for them whilst also wondering which one of them is the perpetrator. Some of the secrets I actually managed to figure out myself before they were uncovered, but I could not identify the killer on my own. To be honest, my mind was kind of blown. So, kudos to Karen M. McManus for crafting an intricate and thrilling story that also manages to surprise. If you enjoy reading books that aren't only fast-paced and suspenseful, but also smart, this definitely is the book for you. I highly recommend it!

The book will make you have an ongoing brainstorm, you will have suspicions who did that about probably every single character in that book. There was a point, where it started to be so interesting that I just sat for so long, not caring about anything else, just finishing that book. I absolutely loved it. And the end was also kind of moving. Waiting for the second part, sadly, it will come out in 2020.
