Mud, Sweat and Tears

The Autobiography

(1)
Bear Grylls is a man who has always sought the ultimate in adventure. Growing up on the Isle of Wight, he was taught by his father to sail and climb at an early age. As a teenager he found identity and purpose through both mountaineering and martial arts, which led the young adventurer to the foothills of the mighty Himalaya and a grandmaster's karate training camp in Japan. On returning home, he embarked upon the notoriously gruelling selection course for the British Special Forces to join 21 SAS - a journey that was to push him to the very limits of physical and mental endurance. Then, in a horrific free-fall parachuting accident, Bear broke his back in three places. It was touch and go whether he would ever walk again. However, only eighteen months later Bear became one of the youngest ever climbers to scale Everest, aged only twenty-three. But this was just the beginning of his many extraordinary adventures . . .Known and admired by millions, Bear Grylls has survived where few would dare to go. Now, for the first time, Bear tells the story of his action-packed life. Gripping, moving and wildly exhilarating, Mud, Sweat and Tears is a must-read for adrenalin junkies and armchair adventurers alike.
Portrait

Bear Grylls' prime-time TV adventure series is one of the most watched shows on the planet, reaching an estimated 1.2 billion viewers in over 200 countries. Bear has authored eleven books and, as a former member of the UK Special Forces, was made an honorary Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy. He continues to lead record-breaking expeditions to the world's extremes, and these missions have raised over GBP1.5 million for children's charities. In 2009, Bear took over as the youngest ever Chief Scout to the Scouting Association, acting as the figurehead to 28 million Scouts around the globe. He lives with his wife, Shara, and their three sons, Jesse, Marmaduke and Huckleberry, on a Dutch barge in London and on a small remote island off the coast of Wales.

„Reckless yet inspiring“

Sabrina Reiter, Thalia-Buchhandlung Wien, Donauzentrum

Who gets bullied and takes up karate to defend himself? Who goes through the damanding selection of SAS twice? Who - after having broken his back - decides to climb Mount Everest? Bear Grylls!

Bear Grylls, who is known all over the world for his hit-TV-show Man vs. Wild/Born Survivor: Bear Grylls, has now finally published his autobiography.

Grylls' actions are often not very well thought-through but reckless and and some might think he's got a deathwish. At the same time I find him to be also very inspiring, because he just doesn't let life get to him. The best example for that would be his accident. After a parachute accident in his early twenties Grylls breaks his back and nobody knows if he'll ever walk properly again, but he doesn't let this news get to him. Instead he sets his mind on climbing Mount Everest and - against all odds - succeeds.

This book is a must-read for every fan of Bear Grylls and adventurer out there.
