    In the Distance

Following the story of Håkan, the legend of The Hawk, the reader emerges into the terrifying, cruel, and wild America of the mid-1800s. After losing his brother Linus, Håkan travels through America, first being stranded in San Francisco, to hopefully find him alive and well in the city of New York. Living a long life, Håkan has met many people on the road, some being evil-minded, taking advantage of The Hawk and his tragic story, others being kind and teaching him their ways of life. This novel was captivating until the very last page. Truly recommend it to anyone liking historical fiction with a twist!

    Greek Lessons

As I loved The Vegetarian and Human Acts by Han Kang I expected nothing less from this novel. The two protagonists were realistically portrayed and in a weird way loveable. Two traumatized adults finding each other. The loss of senses is a main theme of the novel and how someone nearly blind and someone mute interact with and understand each other on a very emotional level, was beautiful to read. Truly recommend this novel!

    Book Lovers

Not being a romance reader, this was the first romance novel I read in a few years. It was funny, it was eccentric, the characters loveable (and sometimes astonishingly annoying), and first and foremost, beautifully written. We follow the story of literary agent Nora and all the trauma and frustration she experienced from a young age. When she first met her rival, editor Charlie, she was fuming caused of his behaviour, arrogance, and everything else. After their first meeting and a time jump, her little sister Libby and Nora visit Sunshine Falls and everything is about to change. Charlie being long (almost) forgotten, Nora is looking forward to four weeks solely with her sister. Finally arrived and ready to enjoy their time together, a checklist is about to change everything. My first Emily Henry book, but definitely not the last.

  • The Kamogawa Food Detectives von Hisashi Kashiwai
    5/5

    The Kamogawa Food Detectives

As a fan of Studio Ghibli movies, I knew I had to pick up this book. Nagare and his daughter Koishi Kamogawa aren’t simply serving delicious food, they also help their customers find recipes to their estranged ex-husbands most famous dish, their favourite childhood dish, etc. Within two weeks notice, they try and also accomplish finding recipes and tastes long forgotten. While not exactly character driven, the book isn’t plot driven as well. It is a cozy and short read, for when you are looking for just the right amount of very detailed stories (main focus on food and its background) and lovely characters.

  • Sea of Tranquility von Emily St. John Mandel
    5/5

    Sea of Tranquility

It was the first book I read by Emily St. Mandel and it definitely won’t be the last one. Her writing style is unique and captivating. Even though it is about time travelling, Mandel also creates realistic relationships and her characters and their development are lovable and credible. Starting in the year 1912, the reader at first is introduced to a young man living in „exile“ in Canada and noticing some strange happening in the middle of a forest. Travelling through time and the story, the reader gets to know different characters and how they also notice this anomaly. After that, the Time Institute in the 24th century steps in and tries to gather knowledge. Truly a well written sci-fi novel with stunning prose.

  • You and Me on Vacation von Emily Henry

    You and Me on Vacation

I was once again pulled into a story of love, friendship, hope, brokenness, and trauma. The protagonist Poppy and her long-term best friend Alex aren’t just travel buddies, but soulmates, and that might be, why their relationship is perfect, yet so unfulfilled. Between summer trips they fall in love with other people, manage their lives separately, and are there for each other. I loved the twists and turns and how their relationship progressed.

  • Romantic Comedy von Curtis Sittenfeld

    Romantic Comedy

Sally is a comedy scriptwriter for a TV show and believes herself to be rather mediocre. Even though she has met many celebrities, being one of the top writers for the show, the pop star Noah and their connection seems different. Over five years, the author portrays the development of the relationship between Noah and Sally, as well as Sally’s relationship with herself. I would recommend this for romance readers who fancy light-hearted and witty romance books with a twist.
