A very good young adult novel
von S. Fischer am 05.09.2011

In a future where aliens have settled on earth and relations aren't always peaceful, teenager Phoenix has long been addicted to an alien drug. While many aliens need it to be able to survive in our atmosphere, it gives humans who use it a drug-like ecstasy. Just when Phoenix... In a future where aliens have settled on earth and relations aren't always peaceful, teenager Phoenix has long been addicted to an alien drug. While many aliens need it to be able to survive in our atmosphere, it gives humans who use it a drug-like ecstasy. Just when Phoenix has managed to get clean, she attends a party which is attacked by aggressive aliens. Injured by an alien, her symptoms are similar to that of the drug she used in the past, so her mother finally gives up on her and decides to send her to a camp for difficult teenagers. As it turns out, it's actually a training facility for the elite troupe AIR (Alien Investigation and removal agency). They were impressed with the way she fought against the aliens attacking her at the party, and they are willing to give her one chance to turn her life around and become an agent. But the training is tough and dangerous and not everyone believes that the former addict deserves such a chance... This is a very intelligent and well-written young adult novel with depth. It's connected to Showalter's Alien Huntress-series for adults. I think it makes sense on its own, but it definitely gives this book more depth to know those novels. The 2nd book for young adults is 'Blacklisted'.
