"Going Postal" introduces its own main character, Moist von Lipwig, who is tasked with rebuilding the postal service of Ankh-Morpork, or face death on the gallows. Accompanied by the last remaining postmen and a personal golem assigned to keep him from abandoning his position, the former fraud has to challenge the Great Trunk Semaphore Company and its leader, one of the most dangerous men in the city...and a con man like him.
